HoHoHomicide Murder Mystery at the Museum (Museum)
On 12/1/2017

Twas the month before Christmas, and all through the pole, there was murder and mystery and food to behold. At this night of North Pole naughtiness, join the elves, reindeer, and Santa himself for the annual pre-Christmas mixer. It’ll take a true scientific mind to solve this mystery and discover who’s been naughty and who’s been nice. Heavy hors d’oeuvres will be served; first beverage free; cash bar available.

While the mystery is for adults, children can have fun too. Don’t worry about getting a babysitter for the evening. Kids can enjoy an evening at the Museum eating pizza, watching a fun movie, making crafts, and more at our Parents’ Night Off Camp: Super Sleuths (separate registration is required)

$40/DMNH Members, $45/Non-members

Ken Lacovara VIP Reception & Lecture (Museum)
On 12/9/2017

Is a penguin a dinosaur? How are the tiny arms of T. rex the key to its power and ferocity? What can dinosaurs teach us about our future?

Join us for a VIP reception, talk and book signing as paleontologist Dr. Kenneth Lacovara, author of the new book Why Dinosaurs Matter, shines a light on these questions and more.

Cost is $14.99 for DMNH Members, $16.99 for non-members and includes a copy of Why Dinosaurs Matter, a meet and greet with the author, book signing, complimentary beer, wine, and cheese, and priority seating for the lecture.

Why Dinosaurs Matter is compelling and engaging—a great reminder that our place on this planet is both precarious and potentially fleeting. In this fun, smart read, Lacovara portrays dinosaurs as vigorous, competent creatures – the adaptable champions of an age. He dispels the popular misconception that they are the epitome of prehistoric failure and obsolescence, and offers the latest ideas about the shocking and calamitous death of the dinosaurs, tying their vulnerabilities to our own. By tapping into the ubiquitous wonder that dinosaurs inspire, Lacovara weaves together the stories of our geological awakening, of humanity’s epic struggle to understand the nature of deep time, the meaning of fossils, and our own place in the history of the planet.

Dr. Kenneth Lacovara is the founder and director of the Jean and Ric Edelman Fossil Park of Rowan University in New Jersey. He has unearthed some of the largest dinosaurs ever to roam the Earth such as the super-massive Dreadnoughtus, which at sixty-five tons weighs more than seven T. rex. Lacovara is sought around the world for his ability to bring the wonders of science and the thrill of discovery to a wide range of audiences. He has appeared in many television documentaries and his discoveries have landed him three times in Discover magazine’s 100 Top Science Stories of the year and in Time’s Top Stories of 2014. Lacovara was named by Men’s Journal as one of “The Next Generation of Explorers” and he is an elected fellow of the prestigious Explorers Club in New York. Why Dinosaurs Matter is his first book.
